Dental Benefits for Veterans

On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2022 | Veterans' Issues |

Our office regularly receives questions from Veterans regarding available dental care and treatment through the VA.  While not every Veteran will be eligible for dental care, in some cases, the VA is authorized to provide extensive dental care.  In other cases, treatment may be limited.   Although the VA does provide dental care and treatment for many Veterans, eligibility is not automatic and is categorized into classes.  Veterans who have a service-connected compensable (10% or greater) dental disability or condition, are a former Prisoner of War, or are service connected at 100% or receive Total Disability Individual Unemployability (TDIU) are eligible and entitled to receive any dental care that they may require.  Dental Care is not available to Veterans who are paid at a temporary 100% rate.

Veterans who are service-connected for a noncompensable (0%) dental condition that resulted from combat wounds or service trauma are eligible for any dental care necessary to provide and maintain functioning dentition.  Further, Veterans receiving hospital, nursing home, or domiciliary care will be provided dental services that are professionally determined by a VA dentist to be essential to the management of the patient’s medical condition under active treatment.  The VA also provides several other less common options for Veterans to receive dental care such as Veterans who are actively engaged in a Title 38, USC Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program or Veterans enrolled in a qualifying VA sponsored homeless residential rehabilitation program for at least 60 days.

If you have any questions about eligibility to VA dental care, or any other questions regarding your VA disability, please give our office a call.   Gardberg and Kemmerly is committed to helping injured and disabled Veterans obtain the benefits they deserve.  If you need help with a disability claim, call our office at 251-343-1111 or 800-332-1529 for a free consultation.
