The Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act of November 19, 2024 is a legislative proposal aimed at enhancing healthcare and benefits for U.S. veterans. The bill focuses on improving access to medical care, modernizing benefits programs, and expanding support services for veterans and their families. Key provisions include:
Healthcare Improvements: Expanding access to VA healthcare services, increasing mental health support, and improving care for disabled veterans. Since the beginning, the Community Care Program has had major problems. This Act seeks to remedy some of those concerns.
Equal standards between VA and community care providers: The Act creates a system which allows the Secretary of the VA to access scheduling systems of community providers and improve rates of return of medical records to the VA from those providers, thereby improving the timeliness of care.
Benefits Modernization: Streamlining the claims process, increasing disability compensation, and enhancing education and job training programs. The Act also creates veteran specific educational materials for the training of community care providers.
Family & Caregiver Support: Strengthening assistance for veteran caregivers, improving survivor benefits, and expanding housing assistance. Caring for a disabled Veteran can be challenging, both physically and mentally. The Act provides grants and contracts for those providers and organizations which seek to provide mental health treatment to family caregivers.
