Some people suffering from chronic pain have a valid disability

If you are an Alabama worker who is facing the reality that your current medical condition may not improve and you could be left unable to work for the foreseeable future, you understand how overwhelming this can be. It is disheartening to be unable to work and unable to earn a living, but you could be eligible for disability benefits through the Social Security Administration.

Having a disability does not always mean you have outward symptoms and physical indications of a problem. Some people have serious illnesses, such as chronic pain disorders, that may not be visible. Complex regional pain syndrome is a type of pain disorder that could be valid grounds for a disability claim.

How does this disease affect your ability to work?

One of the most significant factors of complex regional pain syndrome is the fact that a person could have significant pain that does not diminish in a specific area of the body. Doctors and medical experts are still trying to understand this disease and how it develops, but there are some who believe it is the result of nerve damage from an injury or traumatic event.

Some people who have this disease are able to work and live normally. However, if you have a serious case, it could be much more than just pain that will not go away – it could be a direct threat to your ability to work because of the following things:

  • Stiffness in joints, affecting range of motion
  • Problems with muscle coordination
  • Abnormal movement in the affected area, such as jerking of the limbs

These reasons and others could mean you have a valid claim to disability benefits. The Social Security Administration holds a strict view on what illnesses and physical conditions qualify as disabling, and you will find it beneficial to seek a complete evaluation of your case before you move forward with your claim.

Getting the financial support you need

If you cannot work, you need disability benefits to allow you to support yourself and your family. If chronic pain syndrome has negatively impacted your life and left you unable to continue earning a living as you did in the past, there are options available to you.

Applicants often find the disability claims process to be complex and confusing, but you do not have to navigate it on your own. You have the right to legal guidance as you fight for the support you need.
