Project Homeless Connect
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage our community, both those who can render services or need services, to take part in Project Homeless Connect on Friday, January 26, 2018 at The Grounds in West Mobile from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Project Homeless Connect is an annual event put on by Housing First, Inc., which is a non-profit agency whose mission is to secure resources and assets, which lead to community planning to end homelessness through advocacy and community collaboration. Housing First serves homeless individuals, families, and veterans through street outreach, housing and temporary financial assistance. Housing First utilizes federal funding programs as well as private donations, in addition to local foundation funding, in order to serve those seeking assistance in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
I have had the opportunity to serve our homeless community for the past two years at this event, and have been amazed by the amount of services rendered, number of volunteers serving, and number of citizens taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Project Homeless Connect allows those who are homeless in our community to receive legal advice, haircuts, medical attention, IDs, and vision screenings, as well as access to housing assistance and resources such as food stamps. This community event will bring government agencies, academia, health care facilities, faith based organizations, transportation, law enforcement/court, United Way, businesses, workforce development and other nonprofit agencies together to provide necessary services for the homeless in our community, at no cost to them. Please come and be a part of a great community building event!
