MEDICATION ASSISTANCE RIGHT IN YOUR BACK YARD!
Many people find themselves with lots of prescriptions to fill and no money in their pockets to afford them. There are several prescription programs for people on certain medications. These assistance programs are offered by pharmaceutical companies, nonprofit groups, or state governments. You can generally get the applications from your physician that is prescribing a certain drug that offers an assistance program, or you can download the application from the company’s web site. Many of the drug companies will ship the supply straight to your home or doctor’s office.
There are several websites devoted to helping people get medication assistance. The most extensive is NeedyMeds at www.needymeds.org and RxAssist at www.rxassist.org. These two sites have lots of information on resources that you could use to help get medications.
There is however, for those in the Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia counties, a medication resource right in your own back yard so to speak. If you are not familiar with Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, then get to know this non-profit organization that services Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties in southern Alabama. None of the patients that qualify for assistance pay for their medications at Ozanam. Ozanam is completely funded thought the community to help fill prescriptions. According to their website, Ozanam’s Fiscal Year of 2016-2017 ended with having filled 26,000 prescriptions which retailed at $1.7 million dollars, and they assisted 1614 patients with their medications.
You are eligible to receive medication at Ozanam if you 1) live in Mobile, Baldwin or Escambia Counties ONLY. 2) Are age 18 to 65. 3) DO NOT have Medicaid or other health insurance. 4) DO NOT have Medicare. However, once you spend $3,310 on the prescription coverage plan, you have hit the “donut hole”. If you meet our other requirements, please bring your Medicare print out from your regular pharmacy and we can help you until your benefits reset at the end of the year.
