100% Rating for Service-Connected ALS

Effective January 19, 2012, changes to the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities will benefit veterans who have been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); Lou Gehrig’s disease. Barring affirmative evidence to the contrary, VA regulations provide a presumption of service connection for ALS for any veteran with at least 90 days of active continuous service. 38 C.F.R.§ 3.318. The new changes to the Schedule for Rating Disabilities provide an evaluation of 100 percent minimum rating for any veteran with service-connected ALS. This change will provide a total disability rating for veterans who suffer from this progressive, untreatable, and fatal disease.
