New Bill Would Expand Benefits for Veterans who Served at K2 in Uzbekistan

by | Jun 25, 2025 | Veterans Disability Benefits |

Representative Mark Green has introduced a new bipartisan bill entitled the K2 Veterans Total Coverage Act of 2025 which would establish additional presumption of service connection for certain diseases and cancers for Veterans who suffered exposure at the K2 base in Uzbekistan.

K2 is a former Soviet base turned CIA black site and U.S. Military Base in Uzbekistan. It was used as a launchpad for U.S. operations into Afghanistan after September 11, 2001. More than 16, 000 Veterans served at K2. Scientists have found high levels of uranium at K2. Yellowcake uranium was said to be coming up through the ground.  Jet fuel and volatile chemicals from decaying Soviet rocket bunkers also polluted the soil and air.

K2 Veterans have reported rare and aggressive cancers, reproductive organ diseases, osteoarthritis, and sudden unexplained deaths. Veterans who served at K2 are eligible for presumptive benefits under the PACT Act, but Green thinks the PACT Act doesn’t go far enough. The bill would grant presumptive service connection for any cancer, thyroid disease, bone disease, cardiovascular disease, skin disease, neurological disease, reproductive disease, respiratory disease, endocrine disease, liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorder, and any medically unexplained multisymptom illness to any Veteran who served at K2.
