Appeal a denied claim related to SSD benefits for illness

When a picture comes to a person's mind of a "disabled" person, what's the first thing thought of? For many people in Alabama, it's the thought of a person with a physical ailment or disability, something that is clear with one glance that inhibits a person's ability to lead a normal life. This would include a disabled person's ability to find and keep steady employment. However, not all disabilities are immediately known at first glance and not all manifest in a physical sense.

Some people have the misfortune of an illness that impairs their everyday life and their ability to seek and maintain employment. If you are ill and have sought Social Security disability benefits for illness, it's possible that your initial claim may have been denied. This could be for a variety of reasons, but there are means in which to appeal the denied claim. One way is to file a request for reconsideration.

Usually, a Social Security disability applicant has 60 days from the date one receives the Social Security Administration's letter of denial to file a request for reconsideration for a denied claim. The SSA presumes that one receives the letter five days after the date on the letter, unless you can prove that it was received later. This is important to know, because late reconsideration requests usually are rejected. If a person misses this window of approximately 60 days, typically it will require the filing a brand-new claim.

Certain circumstances will allow a way around this. However, why even chance the 60-day window? If you or a loved one has received a denial for SSD benefits, appeal early. This will only expedite the process in hopes of achieving a favorable outcome.
