New Law Protects Student Veterans During COVID-19

President Trump signed the Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act on April 28. This new law is aimed at protecting educational benefits of those Veterans currently enrolled in school or vocational rehabilitation. There are three main ways the new law should positively impact Student Veterans:

1) Veterans involved in work-study programs are now guaranteed to be paid for their entire contract period regardless of whether their employer is open, or will have their contracts extended by the period of time missed due to COVID-19.

2) Veterans using their GI Bill benefits or enrolled in Vocational Rehabilitation will still receive their Monthly Housing Allowance during the period of time classes and programs effected by COVID-19 are suspended.

3) Finally, Veterans' GI Bill benefits eligibility will be extended by the amount of time missed due to COVID-19.

Gardberg and Kemmerly continues to keep a close eye on changes to Veterans' benefits of all kinds.
