On March 13, 2020, Governor Kay Ivey declared an official State of Emergency in Alabama. Similarly, Mayor Sandy Stimpson followed suit by declaring a Public Health Emergency for the City of Mobile. Below is a list of some of the different charities and services that are being provided in the Mobile area for those struggling during COVID-19.

Feeding the Gulf Coast– Despite an increase in demand, Feeding the Gulf Coast is continuing to work with its community partners to help serve seniors, families, and children in need, especially those who are considered to be in high-risk categories. Dial 211– Individuals can call 2-1-1 or 251-343-1111 for information on shelters, food pantries, or help with utilities. They also have a website: 211ConnectsAlabama.org.

SBA Disaster Loans– The Mobile Chamber of Commerce is available to answer local businesses questions on SBA Disaster Loans. Businesses can email [email protected] or go to the Mobile Chamber of Commerce’s website at https://mobilechamber.com/coronavirus-resources/

Alabama Department of Labor– Individuals seeking to file for unemployment benefits due to COVID-19 can file online at the Alabama Department of Labor’s website or call 866-234-5382. Individuals can also call with inquiries on existing claims at 800-361-4524.

Housing First– Housing First continues to provide affordable housing to the local community as well as assistance and case management services to our local homeless. For more information, go to their website: hfal.org.

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy– Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy is a local charitable pharmacy that provides free prescription assistance for low income and uninsured individuals. Ozanam primarily focuses on maintenance medications for chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Also, several grocery stores in the Mobile area have special hours for senior citizens so that they may come and shop without worrying about crowds. Here are some examples:

– Costco: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

– Fresh Market: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

– Publix: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

– Rouses Market: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

– Target: Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

– Wal-Mart: Tuesdays from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

– Walgreen’s: Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

– Whole Foods: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

– Winn Dixie: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
