What do you need to know about heart disease and SSD benefits?

Many of our readers in Alabama know someone who suffers from some form of heart disease. This health condition can come in many different forms, but all can result in a significantly detrimental effect on a person and that person’s ability to work and earn an income.

So, what do our readers need to know about heart disease and Social Security Disability benefits? Well, for starters, it is important to know how prevalent heart disease is in America. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women and men in America. Think about it. Of all of the things that can lead to a person’s death — including motor vehicle accidents and cancer, which are also prevalent — heart disease is number one. That means that, unfortunately, heart disease is incredibly common.

In fact, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that each year in America, 630,000 people die from heart disease. That is one out of every four deaths. In all, the CDC reports that heart disease costs America about $200 billion per year. Heart disease can be caused by behaviors, such as a poor diet and excessive alcohol consumption, as well as being physically inactive and being overweight, among other causes.

When workers in Alabama find out that they are suffering from heart disease, they may also find out that they are unable to keep working in any capacity. When that is the case, workers may be able to apply for Social Security Disability benefits, as heart disease is one of the qualifying conditions for those benefits.
