Disabled individuals, families can apply for SSI benefits

We can’t always choose the hand we are dealt. This is especially true if yourself or a loved one was involved in an accident that caused irreparable injury. Or if a person falls ill to a chronic disease that severely impacts a person’s quality of life. For those that have the need, Supplemental Security Income can be a lifesaver for families and disabled individuals that are struggling to make ends meet.

If you aren’t familiar with Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, it is a government created and backed program designed for certain individuals. More specifically, these individuals are children and adults that do not meet the necessary requirements to qualify for Social Security Disability, or SSD, for a condition they have that is disabling. Under the SSI program, payments are made to low income individuals that are of age 65 or older, blind or disabled. Many of the people claiming these SSI benefits are disabled or considered to be elderly. These payments are often the difference between being able to afford housing, food and other necessities or nothing at all. An inability to work is a characteristic of SSI benefit recipients, but is not the only determining factor.

It’s possible that you or a loved one has been denied Supplemental Security Income benefits in the past. However, you shouldn’t give up. At Gardberg & Kemmerly, P.C., the attorneys have a combined 20+ years of experience fighting to obtain these benefits for those individuals that are in need of them. We have a reputation for ensuring people obtain the disability benefits to which they are entitled. In many cases, individuals are incorrectly told they are not able to obtain benefits and we have reversed those decisions.

If disability and age are playing a factor in your ability to earn money for you and loved ones, there could be another solution. SSI benefits can sometimes be stacked with other government backed benefits, depending on personal situation. This could make life bearable again with the ability to eat, sleep and live a more comfortable life. Don’t let disability stop you from seeking the benefits that you or your family deserve.
