PRESIDENT OBAMA ANNOUNCES NOMINATION OF ROBERT MCDONALD AS HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

by | Jul 17, 2014 | Veterans Disability Benefits |

President Obama announced that he would nominate Robert McDonald to head the VA. McDonald is a West Point graduate and a former Procter & Gamble chief executive. Though the Senate has not yet scheduled a hearing to consider McDonald’s nomination, lawmakers are already contemplating tough questions to ensure that McDonald has the management experience and expertise needed to drastically overhaul the troubled VA.

Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut stated, “we need to be fully satisfied that he’ll vigorously demand and impose a new culture, with rigorous accountability, and first class services to veterans, our nation’s heroes . . . our nation’s veterans deserve no less – management that achieves reform and results.” McDonald’s nomination comes after former VA secretary Eric Shineski resigned after reports of VA facilities trying to cover up long wait times for healthcare services.
