On October 16, 2012 VA issues a final rule in the Federal Register extending the statutory period during which undiagnosed illnesses and multi-symptom disorders most often associated with service in the Gulf (i.e. Gulf War Illness or Gulf War Syndrome) will be “presumed as service-connected diseases.” This rule extends the statutory deadline for assumption of service connection to December 16, 2016.
